Introduction:Based in Water Orton Primary School we provide pre-school and out of hours child care provision. We aim to provide a stimulating and safe environment for children between the ages of 2 to 11, and run toddler/pre-school sessions, out of hours (morning and afternoon) and an annual summer holiday club.We believe that the best outcomes for children are achieved by fostering effective relationships between parents/carers/child minders/staff. We have an equal opportunities policy and welcome children from all backgrounds working with parents/carers to ensure that we can respect all of our childrens individual needs.About Us:We are a registered charity we work closely with Water Orton Primary School to provide pre-school and out of hours childcare provision for children aged 2 to 11. As a charity we are managed by a volunteer management committee. Committee meetings take place on a monthly basis and committee members are parents/carers that use our services. Our approach is relaxed and we welcome any of our members to attend and find out what is going on and offer their support. Programme

Children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. When your child starts at Pre School you will be invited to an open evening when Claire Essex will go through Pre Schools Planning and assessment process, and will talk you through the Early Years Foundation Stage. Play activities include life experience corner, book corner, formal craft activities, writing area, role-play area, computer area, listening centre, table top activities, water / sand play, cookery, puzzles, construction, climbing frame, trampoline and outdoor play. Visits are arranged to the local library, dentists and school conservation area. We also arrange for the police, nurse and fire brigade to visit Pre-school.Curriculum Early - Learning GoalsCommunications, Language and LiteracyIn both small and large groups, the children are encouraged to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking and listening, and by hearing and responding to stories, songs and nursery rhymes. Children are helped to understand that written symbols carry meaning, to be aware of the purpose of writing, and when they are ready, to use drawn and written symbols for themselves. A well stocked book corner gives every child the opportunity and encouragement to become familiar with books, be able to handle them and become aware of their uses, both for reference and a source of stories and pictures. Personal, Social and EmotionalWith a nurturing environment, children are individually supported in developing confidence, autonomy and self respect. They are encouraged to work and concentrate independently and also take part in the life of the group, sharing and co-operating with other children and adults. Through activities, conversation and practical example, they learn acceptable ways to express their own feelings and to have respect for the feelings of others. All children are given the opportunity, as appropriate, to take responsibility for themselves and also for the group, its members and its property.MathematicalBy means of adult supported practical experience, children become familiar with sorting, matching, ordering, sequencing and counting activities which form the basis for early mathematics. As they use their developing mathematical understanding to solve practical problems, children are assisted to learn and use vocabulary of mathematics, identify objects by shape, position, size, volume and number. Songs, games and picture books help children become aware of number sequences, and when they are ready, to use simple mathematical operations such as adding.Knowledge and Understanding of the WorldA safe and stimulating environment allows children to observe and experiment with a range of natural and manufactured materials. They learn to recognise differences, patterns and similarities, and to share and record their findings. Children are assisted in exploring and understanding their environment, both within the group and also in the wider community. They learn to respect other people, and expect to be respected for themselves. A range of safe and well maintained equipment enables children to expand their intentions and to solve problems. Physical DevelopmentA range of equipment and opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, allows children to develop confidence and enjoyment in the use and development of their own bodily skills. A very high level of adult supervision enables children to safely create and meet physical control in moving, climbing and balancing. At the same time, children are helped to develop the fine motor skills they will need to use tools, including pens, pencils, and to handle small objects with increasing control and precision. They are also encouraged in awareness of their own bodies and of what keeps them healthy.Creative DevelopmentChildren are encouraged to use a wide range of resources in order to express their own ideas and feelings and to construct their individual response to experience in two and three dimensions. Art equipment, including paint, glue, crayons and pencils, as well as natural and discarded materials, provide open ended exploration of colour, shape and texture and the development of skills in painting, drawing and collage. Children join in with and respond to music and stories, and there are many opportunities for imaginative role play, both individually and as part of a group.We encourage children to work at their own pace towards the Early Learning Goals (curriculum for the foundation stage), with encouragement, support and direction from qualified and experienced staff.

Parking

In order to ensure the safety of the children using The Tree House, we support Water Orton Schools Transport Plan which has been designed with the aim of reducing the number of cars that park or drive near the school.We would therefore encourage you to reduce traffic by either walking to The Tree House or if you live further away, ask you to park further away from the school and walk the last part of the journey. The school has an agreement with the Digby Public House in Coleshill Road for parents to park on their rear car park in the morning and at the end of the day. Alternative places to park might be Plank Lane or further along Coleshill Road where there are no driveways and parents will not affect residents.In particular we would urge all parents not to be park their car on the yellow zigzag zone immediately outside the school entrance and avoid parking close to the school in Attleboro or Vicarage Lane.Your co-operation will be greatly appreciated.

Children with special needsThere is a ramp access to the building for wheelchairs. Activities and equipment will be adapted, if necessary, to meet the needs of any child. In Pre-school we have a named SENCo (special educational needs coordinator). The SENCo will work with outside professionals to ensure the best care for your child.Equal OpportunitiesRegardless of gender, age, cultural background or special needs we offer a curriculum to meet the needs of every child, enabling children to value and respect each other.Child ProtectionAll staff have undertaken training in Safeguarding procedures and we take every care in making sure that each child is safe

Parent Partnership

Parent Rota

We encourage parents to come into Pre-school and help work with the children during the session. All parents are very welcome, in reception we have a Parents Rota, please put your name down, we look forward to seeing you.Parents display boardA display board is on the wall in reception, giving parents information on forthcoming events, planning and any other relevant information.Information is displayed about all our different facilities that we provide. Parents eveningIn April and October Pre-school hold a parents evening. Parents are given an allocated time, when parents and the childs key worker discuss your childs progress, look at the childs work and discuss how your child is settling into Pre School. Key workers will also share your childs Profile and observations. Key worker systemWhen your child starts at Pre School, he/she will be given a key worker. Your childs key worker is someone who will build a relationship with your child; they will change them, comfort them if they are upset and understand what your child needs. You can speak to your childs key worker before or after any session (other staff will also work with your child).Your childs key worker is responsible for observing and recording information about your child they will use this information to build up a profile and to plan activities for your child.
Fees
Registration FeesAll users of the charity are required to be registered members of the charity. Our current registration fees are charged termly and the fee is currently £5.75 per family, per term payable in September, January and April of each year.

Fees may alter at our discretion.Nursery Grant Your child will be entitled to claim a nursery education grant the term after their 3rd birthday. This will cover your child for up to 15 hours per week. We will provide you with more information about the procedure to claim the grant when your child turns 3 years. Briefly parents can use their entitlement to cover 2 full days or 5 sessions, parents can also pay for any additional sessions they require.The Tree House will issue an invoice at the beginning of each half term requesting payments in two or three instalments (depending upon the length of the term). We ask that payments are made by cheque, made payable to The Tree House

Ofsted

Ofsted Inspection September 2009

The Tree House received an Ofsted inspection on Friday, 25th September 2009. The inspector looked at both pre-school and out of hours provision. We are very pleased to be able to confirm that the setting overall was rated as being Grade 2 - Good, which means that the childcare provision was judged as being strong.To further improve on service provision Ofsted have asked us to work on the following:•establish the use of the improved outdoor area.•embed and monitor assessment procedures.Plans are now in place to address both of these issues. Look out for further information in due course.

Ofsted Inspection July 2008

Following this inspection of the pre-school the setting was rated as good. The inspection in 2008 gave us encouraging feedback. The key action point was the need to improve our external play area facility.Since the inspection took place in July 2008 we are pleased to be able to report that we have put together an action plan to improve the facility and have been successful in obtaining a substantial grant from Warwickshire County Council which will enable us to install a canopy to provide shelter from rain and sun; a soft external play surface and improve the disabled ramp to ensure safe access into the premises.See our news page for more information on work in progress.A copy of the inspection results are available on the Ofsted website link given below.

Registering for Pre-SchoolNew ChildrenParents of children wanting to register with The Tree House need to fill in a registration form. Pre-school Registration FormGiven that we currently have a waiting list, parents are advised to submit their children's names at around 12-18 months of age. Upon receipt of a registration form our Early Years Manager Claire Essex will make contact with you to discuss your preferences and the sessions we have available.Currently we only have spare places within our afternoon sessions but as this can change quite frequently parents are advised to contact Claire Essex by telephone or email for an up to date position.We hold an open evening in June/July of each year for the parents of new children starting the following September through to December.Parents that want their child to start later in the school year may contact Claire Essex for further information about the setting and to arrange for a tour of the premises.
